Bench Cushion

I have a bench and mirror by my front door and I really love it but always wanted a cushion for it. Unable to find a cushion in the right size, I figured i'd make one - yikes.

Here is the bench before:

I took my measurements and gathered my supplies:

*Plywood (cut to size by Lowe's) ~ $10
*Fabric ~ free (it was an old drape)
*Fabric paint ~ $3
*Painters tape
*Foam (cut by JoAnn Fabrics) ~ $15
*Staple gun

First, I painted my stripes on the fabric using the painters tape and the fabric paint:

24 hours later, I washed the fabric to fade the stripes a little - I didn't want them to look too crisp.

Then I laid the fabric face down, then the foam piece and the plywood:

I stapled the fabric around to the back of the board and then put it on the bench:

I love the way it turned out and it was way cheaper than buying a cushion that wouldn't have been the exact size anyway!

  7. Great idea to paint the stripes on there. I've been meaning to try it, but haven't yet. I like the idea of washing it so it fades a little. Your cushion looks perfect on your bench.
