Coaster Gifts

I wanted to make some easy office gifts this year to give to the awesome women I work with.
I decided on homemade coasters!

They looked realy pretty and easy to make.

I found some tutorials online and could have used modge-podge...... but I haven't had luch with that particular crafting product and I really wanted to make this as easy as possible!

I bought some beautiful tiles at LOWE's:

And decided that stamping something on the tiles would be the easiest way to do this. I used this stamp pad because I read on another blog that it would work really good on the tiles:

Once I got them all stamped, I sprayed them with a light coat of spray paint sealer:

I stuck 4 round felt pieces to the bottoms of each one, stacked them in groups of 4 and tied them with ribbon.
(I don't have a final picture!!)

Everyone loved them and it was a really inexpensive and easy project:)

Beautiful Story.....

"When I was about twenty years old,
I met an old pastor's wife who told me that
when she was young and had her first child,
she didn't believe in striking children,
although spanking kids with a switch
pulled from a tree was standard punishment
at the time.

"But one day when her son was four or five,
he did something that she felt warranted a
 spanking--the first in his life.
And she told him he would have to go
outside and find a switch for her to hit him with.
The boy was gone a long time.
And when he came back in, he was crying.

"He said to her, 'Mama,
I couldn't find a switch, but here's a
rock you can throw at me.'
All of the sudden a mother understood
how the situation felt from the
child's point of view: that if my mother
wants to hurt me, it makes no difference
what she does it with; she might as
well do it with a stone.

"The mother took the boy onto her lap
and they both cried.
Then she laid the rock on a shelf
in the kitchen to remind herself forever:
never violence.
Because violence begins in the nursery--
one can raise children into violence."

$2 Frames

Wow, I come up with some really original blog titles! LOL

So, I was at my fave store again (Habitat for Humanity) and came across these ugly as all get-out chunky frames:

 (There were 2 of them!!)

I bought them for $2 each and took them home.

I decided to (obviously) remove the artwork:

Then I gave them a coat of spray paint. During this process I realized that the frames are not wood (I was fooled!), but some odd unknown material. So, the paint didn't go on super smoothly...... but I actually like the distressed look it gave them:

They are perfect for this blank piece of wall in my house and I see them when I come out of my room; my bedroom door is to the right of the mirror.

Total cost: $2!!

Dear Santa

It's time to mail out our Christmas lists to Santa Clause!
I asked the girls to make out lists so we could place them in the mail box, like we do every year (how else is Santa supposed to know what you want;))

Mia didn't need to make out a list. She wants 2 things: an iPod and a puppy. Olivia on the other hand, spent hours crafting her list of 21 things she really really wants.

I had to laugh when she handed it to me in a sealed envelope, addressed to Santa himself - with a stamp and this little note on the back:

Yes she is!!

Christmas shopping is about 50% done and Christmas cards have been ordered:

As usual, I ordered through and got a great price. They are offering 25% off right now.

We are adding pink to our Holidays this year:)

Anniversary ~ Wood Stained Art

Yesterday was Rich and my (my or I?) 10 year anniversary.

We will be celebrating it this weekend but I did give him his gift. I saw a post on wood stained art over at Me Oh My and knew I wanted to try it.

It is literally 3 steps.....

1. Get your wood:

2. Stain the wood in the stain of your choice:

3. Hand write your words. It can be a poem, a quote..... anything! In my case, I wrote out the lyrics to one of the verses of our wedding song:

Rich loved it and I can't wait to get it hung on the wall.

Sleep Over

So I took the girls to a birthday party/sleepover this weekend.

They weren't sure they wanted to do the sleepover part, so I brought along their overnight bags "just incase".

Ofcourse, after a couple of hours at the party and some convincing by the other girls, they decided to stay overnight. I was a little nervous so I left them my cell phone so they could call me at any moment (which they did atleast 5 times!)........ It was funny to see some of the pictures they took with my phone:

(is that MY daughter on the left?? That's some serious 'tude!)

Monster Mash 2011

The girls competed in the yearly "Monster Mash" ice skating competition this weekend.

Here they are waiting to take the ice!

The girls did great; Mia got 2nd place in both of their categories and Olivia took 3rd in both of their categories.

Halloween Around the House

I can't believe it's time for Halloween again!

Here are some shots of Halloween around my house. I really only decorate the kitchen and entryway, so here is the kitchen first:

Open cabinet above fridge ~

Above another cabinet ~

Chalk board with our countdown! ~

I hung pictures from all of the girls prior Halloween costumes up from a ribbon; I love looking at them ~
