Junie B. Jones

We love the Junie B. Jones books in my house! The stories have a nice message and the kids think Junie B. is very funny..... ofcourse, she is a little sassy.
But i'm just so glad that it makes my girls enjoy books and reading so much.

We got to meet Junie B. this weekend when we attended a play called "Jingle Bells, Batman Smells". It was awesome and I try to take the girls to atleast one show/play every year around the holidays.
Last year we did the "Nutcracker" and I am really loving this tradition!

We had a great day. Disney, birthday lunch (with cupcakes), Disney parade, Dinner with family, cake and presents (including a 12 foot trampoline)!

Master Bedroom Re-do

Here is my master bedroom shortly after moving into our house almost 6 years ago:

This room really stressed me out so I didn't do much to it.
The furniture was a very light "blonde" wood color that I didn't like, but it all had to stay. So...... I painted it all white. (Unfortunately, this is the only picture I could find of the room before)

I liked the white and decided to paint the walls a dramatic color and keep everything else in the room white: furniture, bedding, drapery):

This is SO embarassing but I am new to blogging and don't have any "before" pictures of projects.......

I loved it for awhile but after a couple of years, I have started to lighten things up and grew tired of the dark walls. So, I painted the room a very light blue, got a larger mattress (which meant having to get rid of my white headboard/footboard), added side tables, new lamps and ottomans at the foot of the bed:

I made the headboard myself and the ottomans are from IKEA (bought off of Craigslist)...... I love it now!

For the headboard, I decided to nail batting and fabric directly to the wall. Then I trimmed it out with wood moulding painted black. It was super easy and I really worried about making a headboard that would have to be "hung" on the wall because I don't have a stud finder and I didn't want it falling off the wall.

Gift Wrap Storage

In my dreams I have a beautiful room in my house that has lots of windows and is all mine. It has a huge table with tons of storage and a gift-wrapping area with beautiful gift wrap and jars full of colorful ribbons........
But, in my house, I have a wall in the laundry room!

I couldn't find a handy place to keep all my gift bags and wrapping paper, so I decided to put them on the wall in the laundry room. I bought basic wire office supplies (2 hanging files and a file box) and hung them on the wall.

The 2 hanging file baskets hold gift bags and tissue paper. They have been spray painted aqua, but i'm not in love with the color so it will change at some point:

The file box is not meant to hang on the wall, but I just screwed it in and it works like a charm. It's nice and big and tons of rolls of paper would fit:

It all fits pretty nicely on the wall and doesn't get in the way at all.

Tree Is Up

We finally got our Christmas tree up this week!

I always want a color coordinated tree that looks perfect. That never happens. This year I decided to do a "themed" tree in the living room and a "fun" tree in the family room. The "fun" tree is colorful and was totally decorated by the girls. They did such a great job that now I don't even want the so-called perfect tree and am loving the one that was done by them!

It turned out great and they are so proud of it:
(I may or may not have moved some balls around and straightened out the ribbon after everyone went to bed!)

Message from Santa

Has anyone ever heard of the website "Portable North Pole" before?

It is the coolest thing i've ever seen! You can plug in certain information about your child (or an adult) and Santa sends him/her a very specific and personalized greeting. The videos are amazing and are emailed to you instantly...... plus, they're FREE!

Here are the 2 that I made for Olivia and Mia:

(And this Santa is definitely the real deal!!)

Countdown to Christmas

My daughter was home sick from school today and I stayed home with her. By lunchtime, she was feeling a little better and we decided to do a craft.
I couldn't take her out to a store so I had to use whatever I had around the house. Here are the supplies I had:

a piece of foam board -

some old cards and scraps of paper -

Various stamps -

A box full of fabric - (I chose this one because it was the only thing that looked "christmas-y")

After looking at everything, we decided to make a countdown to Christmas.

First we wrapped the board with the fabric using a staple gun and masking tape:

Next we hot glued small clothes pins in rows down the board:
(I forgot to take a picture of that step)

Then we used our stamps to stamp out numbers 1 - 25 on the backs of the old cards and clip them to the clothes pins:

We used a snowflake tree ornament to "mark" our day..... we hung it on the "25" and will move it one place everyday until we reach Christmas!
